What happens during a Shock Wave Therapy Practice
What happens
During the consultation a thorough case history will be taken, identifying not just the problem causing you to seek my help, but also your general health. The reason for such an in depth discussion is to identify any other health issue which might be underlying the musculo-skeletal condition.
A detailed examination of the area affected will follow along with an assessment of associated areas e.g some knee complaints have their origin in a hip restriction etc. Identifying areas of strain, weakness, damage or imbalance is important.
Shock Wave Therapy is a two-way process. She is keen to discuss with you what your past experiences of manual therapy might have been and which approaches are most likely to be successful for you.
Your comfort throughout the consultation is of utmost importance. To perform a thorough examination, you may be asked to remove some items of clothing so that your back, shoulder, knee or whichever area is relevant is visible. She wants you to be completely comfortable and will make sure that you are happy to remove some of your clothes before asking you to do this. Only when absolutely needed will she ask you to undress down to your underwear and will be happy for you to replace clothing after the examination.
